It’s time for goblins and ghouls to gather for Halloween fun! The City of Vaughan is offering an exciting lineup of themed workshops for kids to celebrate the spooky season. Registration is underway – take a look at some of the programs available on weekends this month.

Make a scary short film

Oh, the horror! Get your screams out of the ‘box’ and onto the big screen in our Halloween 'Screams in a Box' Film Making Workshop for children ages nine to 14 years old. This program is delivered in partnership with Film Camp in a Box.

Under the guidance of a master filmmaker, and using the latest digital gear, young filmmakers will write, direct, act, film and edit a scary short film? The result ... a spine-tingling blockbuster to terrify your family and friends this Halloween.

All movies created by students will be made available for download at the end of the workshop and automatically entered into the ‘Screams in a Box’ competition – an annual youth scary film challenge and festival held in November.

Workshop dates and locations:

  • Maple Community Centre (10190 Keele St.) on Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct.15
  • Rosemount Community Centre (1000 New Westminster Dr.) on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22
  • Vellore Village Community Centre (1 Villa Royale Ave.) on Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29
