What is pickleball?

Pickleball is an emerging sport experiencing a popularity boom in Canada. Pickleball is a paddleball sport, combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It is played with a paddle and a wiffleball (a plastic ball with holes) on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. It can also be played on a tennis court with line painting modifications. The sport can be played as doubles or singles and is enjoyed by all ages and skill levels.

About Vaughan’s Pickleball Study

Pickleball continues to grow across Vaughan, and the City is expanding opportunities to play. Following the City’s Pickleball Study conducted in 2021–2022, which included extensive community feedback, new shared-use and dedicated pickleball courts have been introduced across the city, with more on the way. Using the findings, the City identified key sites to retrofit existing tennis courts for shared use, while planning for dedicated pickleball courts to meet increasing demand.
