The City of Vaughan manages more than 90 different properties, facilities and buildings including community centres, fire stations, heritage sites and more. But have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes to make these spaces ready for the community?

We’re pulling back the curtain to give you an inside look at our City facilities. Let’s take a look at the Carrville Community Centre.

In July 2025, the City celebrated the official grand opening of its newest activity hub, the Carrville Community Centre, Library and District Park, located at 655 Thomas Cook Ave.

This state-of-the-art facility features the following amenities:

  • 25-metre lane pool and teaching pool
  • double gymnasium
  • fitness studios
  • indoor walking/running track
  • library
  • modern teaching kitchen
  • outdoor pump track
  • outdoor skating trail
  • pickleball, tennis and multi-use sports courts
  • playground, splashpad and trails
  • third-party licensed childcare services *opening in April
  • and more!

The most recent addition is a third-party licensed childcare service delivered by Kids Come First Child Care Services (KCF) at Carrville Community Centre. KCF is an award-winning charitable non-profit based in Vaughan, with more than 30 years of experience. KCF will be staffed by qualified educators, including Registered Early Childhood Educators, with ongoing training in health, safety and inclusion. The programming will deliver inclusive, play-based, emergent curriculum, with a strong focus on outdoor/nature-based learning and family engagement, tailored to toddlers and preschoolers. A soft opening of the childcare centre is targeted for April. For information about registration and fees, or to be added to the waitlist at no cost, email ELC@kidscomefirstccc.ca or visit kidscomefirstccc.ca.

The Carrville Community Centre is the City’s first Net-Zero building, representing its commitment to sustainability and innovation. This building’s strategic design was guided by three goals:

  • Low emissionsto be a high-performing facility that uses as little energy as possible while keeping carbon emissions extremely low.
  • Renewable energy – to produce as much energy as it uses each year. This big achievement reflects the thoughtful planning and technology that went into creating this facility.
  • Future needs – to be comfortable and resilient, ensuring the space is welcoming, dependable and adaptable as community needs evolve.

To make Net-Zero a reality, there are several key systems working together:

  • Geothermal heating and cooling systems harness the stable temperatures underground for efficient year-round climate control.
  • Rooftop solar panels supply clean, renewable electricity.
  • A well‑insulated building exterior maintains a stable and comfortable indoor environment while reducing energy use.
  • High-efficiency HVAC systems deliver excellent air quality with far lower energy consumption.

Together, these elements create a facility that performs exceptionally well environmentally, financially and operationally. Carrville Community Centre demonstrates how thoughtful design and innovation can deliver long-term value while reducing environmental impact. It sets a strong standard for future City facilities and supports its vision for a more resilient future.
