Doctors McLean District Park
Improvements are coming to Doctors McLean District Park, located along the banks of the Humber River at 8100 Islington Ave., in Ward 2.
Through public engagement, the City has identified residents’ priorities and vision for this cherished park’s redevelopment, which will include a new picnic shelter with seating, a new splashpad, an adventure playground, trails, a pedestrian bridge over the Humber River, a lookout with seating, interpretive signage and naturalization plantings. All new elements improve accessibility to, and within the park, including accessible rubber safety surfacing, playground elements, the splashpad, seating and trails.
The design integrates with the natural setting of Doctors McLean District Park and celebrates the rich history of the area and its location within the Woodbridge Heritage Conservation District. It also includes a key link in the Vaughan Super Trail and Humber Trail network, with new trails that will connect the existing Riverwalk, from Woodbridge Avenue, north over the Humber River, to Clarence Street. These improvements are being partially funded by the Province of Ontario.
What's next?
Improvements are progressing at Doctors McLean District Park! The next phase of work includes extending the Riverwalk Neighbourhood Walk, from Woodbridge Avenue to Clarence Street, and building a new pedestrian bridge over the East Humber River to connect the trail to the park.
Trail construction is expected to begin in June 2026, with the new trail connection opening in 2027, subject to site and weather conditions. Work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Construction crews will access the site through the public open space along Islington Avenue, south of the commercial plaza located at 8074 Islington Ave.
Measures will be in place to help reduce noise and dust during construction. For safety, the access route and construction site will be fully fenced and restricted to authorized construction personnel. The contractor is required to regularly inspect and maintain fencing and barriers and City staff will conduct periodic site visits to monitor safety and security measures as the project progresses. After construction is complete, the temporary construction access route will be restored.
