Key By-law Provisions

Unless otherwise signed or prohibited by the Parking By-law (PDF), on-street parking is allowed for up to three hours without a permit between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., and that on-street parking is prohibited between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. unless the vehicle has a valid permit for that date, time and location.

Prohibited at all times

Whether or not a vehicle has a valid permit, the following is prohibited at all times:

  • parking within three meters of a fire hydrant
  • parking within a “No Park” or “No Stop” zone
  • parking within nine meters of an intersection
  • parking within 0.6 meters of a private roadway
  • parking left wheels to the curb
  • parking on private property without the consent of the owner or occupant
  • on any roadway having an overall width of less than six metres
  • parking during snow events if parking would interfere with snow clearing activities
  • commercial vehicle parking on a residential driveway unless construction is being prepared for or is underway, unless the vehicle is wholly enclosed within a garage

City of Vaughan Online Parking Permit System

 

The City of Vaughan offers three types of parking permits which residents can purchase:

  • Visitor Parking Permits
  • Construction Parking Permits
  • Resident Monthly Parking Permits

 

Please note:

  • Applications are available online at any time.
  • Permits are electronic and do not need to be printed or displayed.
  • Permits are non-transferable between licence plate numbers. Unused permit dates cannot be cancelled and reissued at a later time if the dates have already passed.
  • Permits are not valid for trailers, tow trucks, buses, commercial vehicles, boats, recreational vehicles and unlicensed, unused, dilapidated or abandoned vehicles, as per the Zoning By-law.
  • You can pay by Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Debit and any type of Debit credit card is not accepted.

Visitor Parking Permits

Residents may buy permits for their visitors to park on city streets. Applications are available online at any time. Permits are electronic and do not need to be printed or displayed.

 

Permit conditions:

  • There is a fee of $7 per permit.
  • Permits are available for up to 10 consecutive days and up to 60 days per calendar year (i.e. Jan. 1 to Dec. 31).
  • Permits are non-transferable between licence plate numbers. Unused permit dates cannot be cancelled and reissued at a later time if the dates have already passed.
  • Permits are not valid for trailers, tow trucks, buses, commercial vehicles, boats, recreational vehicles and unlicensed, unused, dilapidated or abandoned vehicles, as per  the Zoning By-law.

 

Which streets allow visitor parking permits?

  • To ensure your street can be accessed by emergency vehicles, visitor parking permits are available only on streets that are at least eight metres in width.
  • View this list (PDF) or map (PDF) of streets eligible for visitor parking permits.
  • If your street is not eligible for visitor parking permits, the online system will allow you to select a permit on another street and your visitor should park on the street for which the permit is issued.

 

How many days should I obtain a visitor parking permit for?

You should purchase a visitor parking permit for all of the days that your visitor will be parked. For example, if your visitor will be parking from Friday night to Saturday morning, you should obtain a two-day permit which includes Friday and Saturday.

 

Construction/Maintenance Parking Permits

 

Residents may buy permits to park their vehicle(s) on the street during construction projects or maintenance activities (such as resurfacing of a residential driveway or power washing of a condominium underground garage), which prevent them from parking on their driveway/parking spot.

 

Permit conditions:

  • There is a fee of $7 per permit.
  • Permits are available for up to 30 consecutive days and up to 30 days per calendar year per vehicle (i.e. Jan. 1 to Dec. 31).
  • Permits are non-transferable between licence plate numbers. Unused permit dates cannot be cancelled and reissued at a later time if the dates have already passed.
  • Permits are not valid for trailers, tow trucks, buses, commercial vehicles, boats, recreational vehicles and unlicensed, unused, dilapidated or abandoned vehicles, as per the Zoning By-law

 

Which streets allow construction parking permits?

  • To ensure your street can be accessed by emergency vehicles, construction parking permits are available only on streets that are at least eight metres in width.
  • View this list (PDF) or map (PDF) of streets eligible for construction parking permits.
  • If your street is not eligible for construction parking permits, the online system will allow you to select a permit on another street and you should park on the street for which the permit is issued.

 

How many days should I obtain a construction parking permit for?

You should purchase a construction parking permit for all of the days that you will be parked. For example, if you will be parking from Friday night to Saturday morning, you should obtain a two-day permit that includes Friday and Saturday.

 

Monthly Parking Permits

 

Residents may buy a limited number of monthly parking permits to park their vehicle(s) on the following streets in designated areas:

 

  • Cidermill Avenue (valid Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Napa Valley Boulevard
  • Sharer Drive (valid Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Whitmore Road (valid Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Woodstream Boulevard (valid Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

The limits are determined by the size and other characteristics of the street.

 

Permit conditions:

  • The permit can be purchased in one-, six- and 12-month increments.
  • Permits are available for purchase five days prior to the start of the month.
  • Permits end on the last day of the calendar month, regardless of when they are purchased.
  • Each street has a limited number of parking permits available.
  • Permits purchased once the month has started are not pro-rated and are non-refundable.
  • Permits are non-transferable between licence plate numbers.
  • Permits are not valid for trailers, tow trucks, buses, commercial vehicles, boats, recreational vehicles and unlicensed, unused, dilapidated or abandoned vehicles, as per Zoning By-law.

When can you purchase monthly permits and when do they end?

Monthly permits can be purchased up to five days before the start of the month or any time within the month. Monthly permits always end on the last day of the calendar month. For example, you can purchase a permit for November up to five days before the start of November or anytime within November, and the permit would end on Nov. 30. The same rule applies to monthly permits purchased in six- and 12-month increments.

 

How to apply to have your street considered for monthly parking permits?
