Open to Vaughan students from grades five through eight, the Mayor for a Day contest will build on what you’re learning (or have learned) in class about government.

As you know, Vaughan is served by multiple levels of government, including municipal, provincial and federal. Our municipal government plays an important role in residents’ daily lives and is the one most commonly interacted with by residents. The City, for example, is responsible for building permits, fire and rescue services, public records and licences (such as marriage licences), waste collection and more.

The winner of the Mayor for a Day contest will get a behind-the-scenes look at how your municipal government functions! They’ll have the opportunity to attend meetings, tour Vaughan City Hall, meet City staff, take photos in the Council Chambers and, of course, spend the day with Mayor Steven Del Duca learning what it’s really like to be Mayor! The application period is open from March 18, 2024, until April 22, 2024.

Complete the form (PDF) and submit to mayor@vaughan.ca before April 22, 2024.

Don’t be afraid to dream big! Our city needs the next generation of leaders to come forward with their great ideas.
