Vaughan Remembers
Every year, at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, we honour the brave Canadians who served and continue to serve our country.
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council will host a Remembrance Day service at the Woodbridge Cenotaph, also known as the Woodbridge Memorial Tower (80 Wallace St.), to commemorate the brave Canadians who risked – and, in many cases, lost – their lives during times of war, conflict and peace.
Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony and are welcome to join us at the Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena (5020 Hwy 7) for refreshments following the service. Please note, Wallace Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day, and parking will be available at Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena.
Additionally, Wallace House (137 Woodbridge Ave.) will be open on Remembrance Day, featuring displays of military uniforms, newspaper clippings and photographs related to the First World War and Second World War. Visitors are invited to explore these meaningful exhibits as part of the day's commemorations.
Throughout November, you are encouraged to share thoughts of remembrance and messages of peace on the City of Vaughan’s Poppy Mural at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.). There, you can also view this year’s historical exhibit that pays tribute to the wartime experiences of those from Vaughan and York Region who served during the Second World War. The exhibit will be on display until Friday, Nov. 14 and online at vaughan.ca/RemembranceMonth for one year.
The City will also host a Remembrance Month ceremony at Vaughan City Hall on Monday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
QUOTE
“At the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, we remember the brave Canadians who lost their lives serving our great country in times of conflict and war. These selfless acts of courage and bravery must never be taken for granted. I encourage everyone to join me and my Council colleagues on Nov. 11 at the Woodbridge Cenotaph to pause, reflect and honour the lives of our veterans, whose sacrifice allows us the privilege of living in one of the greatest countries in the world. Lest we forget.”
