Vaughan recognized for excellence in Public Works
The City of Vaughan’s Public Works teams work tirelessly to keep our city safe, clean and beautiful – and their efforts are being recognized in a big way! For the second consecutive year, City staff have been awarded for their dedication to honouring National Public Works Week, receiving the Ontario Public Works Association 2024 National Public Works Week Recognition Award.
During a special ceremonial presentation at today’s Council meeting, Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council recognized the Public Works portfolio for this outstanding achievement. This award recognizes public works agencies across Canada for their education and outreach activities during National Public Works Week.
Every year, the City of Vaughan goes all out for National Public Works Week – a celebration of the people who keep our roads safe, our water clean, our parks beautiful and so much more. This year’s festivities kicked off last week with a flag-raising event at the Joint Operations Centre (2800 Rutherford Rd.) – home base to many of the City’s 450 dedicated Public Works staff, followed by an illumination of Vaughan City Hall. To wrap up the week, the City held an Open House, featuring educational games and activities for residents and families to enjoy.
Vaughan’s Public Works staff help keep our community strong by providing services in transportation and traffic, water, wastewater and stormwater, solid waste management, parks and grounds, forestry and horticulture, fleet management and the crossing guard program. They make our community a great place to live, work and play.
