Welcome spring at your home with new trees through the Backyard Tree Planting program
Spring is on its way, so we’re making it easier for you to add more trees to your property. In partnership with Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests (LEAF), a non-profit organization, you can help grow Vaughan’s canopy coverage and bring more trees to our neighbourhoods – starting right in your backyard!
Through LEAF’s Backyard Tree Planting program, you can access expert advice and planting services to ensure your future trees thrive for years to come. Services include a 30-minute site consultation, a native deciduous or evergreen tree, delivery and planting, mulch, a care guide and ongoing advice. The cost of new trees is paid for by the homeowner and subsidized by the City of Vaughan and York Region.
This program is available to all Vaughan residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Online registration is required.
Tree-planting initiatives like this reinforce the City’s commitment to environmental sustainability and expanding our tree canopy – which are key priorities outlined in the Urban Forest Management Plan (PDF). Trees help provide oxygen, improve mental and physical health, and offer habitats, food and other resources for many animal species. Watch this video to learn more about the importance of planning for the future of Vaughan’s trees.
