The City of Vaughan has proclaimed Tuesday, Oct. 4 as Sisters in Spirit Day. It is a day of somber reflection to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and gender-diverse people in Canada. In commemoration, the City is holding a Spirit Vigil in the Courtyard at Vaughan City Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. Members of the community are encouraged to attend.

As the summer weather subsides, you may notice more wasps and hornets buzzing around. While these insects benefit ecosystems because they control insect populations, they can become aggressive when their food supply diminishes. Managing their nests can be dangerous, so the City of Vaughan is providing resources on what to do if you see a wasp or hornet nest on public or private property.

Legislation such as the Ontario Municipal Act, The Planning Act and the Building Code Act provide rules and limits on the application, pricing, and reporting of specific city permits, licenses, user fees, and other charges. These rules require Municipalities to continually monitor fee policies, processes, calculations and reporting methods in order to comply.
