Vaughan welcomes Lunar New Year with vibrant celebration marking the Year of the Horse
Vaughan City Hall came alive with colour, culture and community spirit on Feb. 22 as residents gathered to celebrate Lunar New Year and ring in the Year of the Horse during the City of Vaughan’s annual festivities.
Guests enjoyed official remarks, exciting entertainment, vibrant dance performances, a traditional lion dance, red pocket giveaways, complimentary refreshments and much more.
“Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the start of the Year of the Horse with us at Vaughan City Hall,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca. “It was a truly memorable afternoon filled with vibrant Asian traditions, delicious food and incredible entertainment. I want to acknowledge all the City staff, performers and partners who brought this celebration to life. To Vaughan’s Asian community, I hope this year brings health, good fortune and joy to you and your loved ones.”
Lunar New Year is one of the most elaborate, colourful and important observances for the Asian community. It is about ushering in luck and prosperity, celebrating the previous year and welcoming the new one.
In 2026, we celebrate the Year of the Horse, which symbolizes energy, confidence and vitality.
