The City proudly kicks off Black History Month with a vibrant celebration
On Feb. 1, the community came together to celebrate Black History Month with Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council at Vaughan City Hall.
Guests enjoyed official remarks, Afro-Caribbean dance, music and drum performances, alongside Black-owned and Black-led businesses, organizations and creatives that showcased their work and engaged with the community.
“It was wonderful to see so many members of the community join us at Vaughan City Hall for our Black History Month event,” said Mayor Del Duca. “Black History Month is a time to honour and celebrate the significant contributions of Black Canadians. The impact of their culture and heritage on our nation is incalculable, and this month is an opportunity to learn about their complex history, cultural diversity and rich traditions. Together with diverse Black communities, we continue to engage in meaningful dialogue to ensure their voices are part of our decision-making process. To our community and beyond, happy Black History Month!”
The City proclaims February as Black History Month – an opportunity to reflect, learn and educate residents on the experiences, contributions and achievements of Black Canadians and the many diverse Black communities.
