What’s open and closed in Vaughan on Canada Day

City service changes on Wednesday, July 1

 

It’s almost Canada Day and as you get ready for the holiday, the City of Vaughan is reminding everyone of facility closures, modified hours and alternate programming on Wednesday, July 1. 

 

Here is everything you need to know:

 

Municipal facilities

Most facilities, including Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.), will be closed on Wednesday, July 1, and will reopen on Thursday, July 2. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted. 

 

Community centres and recreational programming

Vaughan community and fitness centres will be closed on Wednesday, July 1 and will reopen for regularly scheduled recreational drop-in and registered activities on Thursday, July 2. 

 

Register for drop-in programs at Thornhill Outdoor Pool

Thornhill Outdoor Pool is open on Wednesday, July 1, offering aquafitness, length swim and recreational swims that day. Registration for drop-in programs begins seven (7) days in advance of all scheduled swims (four days in advance for non-residents). Thornhill Outdoor Pool is cashless. Debit and credit are the only acceptable forms of payment. Register at vaughan.ca/OutdoorPool.

Vaughan Public Libraries

All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) branches will be closed on Wednesday, July 1, and will reopen on Thursday, July 2 for regular business hours. To view the hours of operation at all VPL branches, visit vaughanpl.info

 

Have fun at home with VPL! With an internet connection and a VPL library card, you can enjoy many free online resources available through VPL’s website, including access to eBooks and audiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more.

 

Waste collection

Waste collection scheduled for WednesdayJuly 1, Thursday, July 2 and Friday, July 3 will shift by one day.

 

Here is the updated collection schedule:

  • Collection scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 will be moved to Thursday, July 2.

  • Collection scheduled for Thursday, July 2 will be moved to Friday, July 3.

  • Collection scheduled for Friday, July 3 will be moved to Saturday, July 4. 

 

Remember to have waste set out by 7 a.m. on your adjusted collection day. Crews will not return for waste that was not set out on time.

Vaughan Animal Services

The Vaughan Animal Services shelter will be closed to the public on Wednesday, July 1, and will reopen on Thursday, July 2. You can purchase pet licensing tags online at any time through Service Vaughan. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices

Celebrate Canada Day with us!

No plans yet for the holiday? Come out to the City’s award-winning annual Vaughan Celebrates Canada Day event on Wednesday, July 1 at North Maple Regional Park (11085 Keele St.) from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., headlined by Rêve and Maestro Fresh Wes! This free, fun-filled family event will include entertainment, activities, food vendors, a business zone and much more. Free shuttle service is available. There is no parking onsite
