VFRS reminds everyone to exercise caution with outdoor fires

Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) has lifted the fire ban on outdoor and open-air burning put in place on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Although the ban in Vaughan has ended effective Thursday, Aug. 21 at noon, VFRS is advising you to continue to exercise caution when conducting permitted open-air burning and using outdoor firepits and barbecues. Remember – a fire burn permit is required for all open-air burning in Vaughan.

If you are using an outdoor flame of any type, remember these tips:

  • Follow all provincial and/or local permit requirements.

  • Never leave a fire of any kind unattended.

  • Use only clean, safe fuel.

  • Be aware of changes to the wind.

  • Keep a method of fire snuffing nearby (e.g. fire extinguisher, pail of water or sand).

You can learn more about fire burn permits on the City’s website. More information on fire safety is available at vaughan.ca/fire.
