Become a Green Guardian and make a difference in your community!

Turn your passion for the environment into meaningful action by becoming a Green Guardian!

The Green Guardians Community Programs Strategy is the City of Vaughan’s environmental stewardship framework that focuses on enhancing awareness and encouraging public participation in green initiatives throughout the city. It offers an accessible and resourceful database for you to learn more about events, programs and activities to participate in.

Interested in getting involved? There are many ways you can become a Green Guardian:

Participate in existing events and programs

As a community member, non-profit organization or business, you can participate in environmental stewardship projects run by the City, such as:

  • Adopt-a-Park: adopt your local park by committing to at least two litter cleanups per year with support, resources and recognition from the City.

  • Community Cleanup: take action to preserve the environment by collecting litter within parks, trails and City-owned open spaces.

  • Community Tree Planting: plant trees in Vaughan’s greenspaces, growing our urban forest together.

  • Vaughan Gardeners: learn how to grow, preserve and protect your greenspace with free workshops on key gardening topics.

Organize a corporate tree planting

For local businesses, the Corporate Tree Planting program offers an opportunity to bring your team together and plant trees in Vaughan’s greenspaces. Sign up for a planting day today! Applications are considered under the following criteria:

  • If the event will result in a more sustainable and healthier environment.

  • If the event will encourage the protection of Vaughan’s natural resources.

A standard tree-planting event is $1,500, plus an additional $75 per participant, and runs for approximately two hours. In return for your investment, the City will:

  • plan and deliver a tree-planting event specifically for your group.

  • provide all necessary training, support and safety equipment for your planting event.

  • supply all planting tools and materials, including trees, shovels and gloves.

  • provide your company with a certificate of recognition.

Together, we share the responsibility of creating a clean, sustainable community for generations to enjoy. As a Green Guardian, you will play an important part in keeping Vaughan green. Learn more at vaughan.ca/GreenGuardians.
