The City of Vaughan’s Adopt-a-Park program is back!

Community groups, businesses and residents can “adopt” a park by committing to at least two litter cleanups per year, with a minimum of three months between events. The City provides support, resources and recognition for your efforts.

Parks are at the heart of our community. They provide places to play, relax and connect. By adopting a park, you help keep these spaces clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.

Your efforts help protect the environment and support a greener, healthier Vaughan.

How it works

  1. You apply for a one-year adoption term with the City. Only one person per group needs to apply. Applicants must provide:
    1. a group name
    2. phone, email and mailing address for the point of contact for the group
    3. names of each group member
    4. name of preferred park (selected from the list of parks available for adoption)
  2. The City reviews your application and makes a decision. Applications are reviewed within 10 business days.
  3. Once approved, you will be notified via email. This will include the date your one-year term begins.
  4. You must commit to at least two cleanups per year. Cleanups are recommended between April and November.
  5. Once you’ve chosen a cleanup date with your group, contact the City at least two weeks in advance by email at greenguardians@vaughan.ca to co-ordinate the pick-up of supply kits and post-event waste collection.
  6. Once your term is up, you may renew for another year. If a renewal application is not received by the end of the term, the park becomes available to other interested groups. Only one group may adopt a park at a time.

What’s in it for you

  • A sense of ownership and connection: You’ll build a stronger relationship with your local park by helping care for the space you use and enjoy.
  • Community pride and visibility: Your group will play an important role in keeping Vaughan safe, clean and beautiful – and you’ll share that pride with your neighbours.
  • Public recognition for your contribution: A customized recognition sign will be installed in the adopted park acknowledging your group’s stewardship.
  • Support from the City: You’ll receive supplies, guidance and ongoing support to help ensure each cleanup is safe, successful and rewarding.
  • A more connected community: Volunteer activities create opportunities for team building and shared purpose among participants of all ages.

Eligibility

To be eligible to adopt a City park, you must be at least 18 years old. Participants under 18 may participate in activities under the supervision of an adult from the adopting group.

There is no minimum group size; however, at least five participants are recommended to ensure events are impactful and manageable.
