Profile
Linda Jackson, a lifelong resident of Woodbridge, Vaughan, has built a distinguished career in public service, deeply influenced by her upbringing and the example set by her mother, Lorna Jackson, Vaughan's longest-serving mayor. Growing up with her parents and brothers, Linda developed a strong connection to her community, which laid the foundation for her enduring commitment to civic leadership.
Linda's entry into politics came in 2002 when she was elected as Ward 2 Councillor, quickly followed by her election as Regional Councillor in 2003. This marked the beginning of her long-standing dedication to the people of Vaughan. Her leadership and strategic vision earned her the mayoralty in 2006, a role in which she continued her mother's legacy of governance and public service. After her term as mayor, Linda remained an integral part of Vaughan’s leadership, serving as Local and Regional Councillor from 2018 to 2022.
In October 2022, Linda was elected Deputy Mayor and Local and Regional Councillor for Vaughan's 2022-2026 Term of Council. Her leadership now extends to the regional level, as she also serves on York Region Council, where her expertise in infrastructure, planning, and community development is invaluable. Linda's influence is further amplified by her roles on the York Regional Police Services Board, where she champions initiatives for public safety, and her August 2024 appointment to the Canadian Association of Police Governance (CAPG) Board of Directors representing Ontario, where she contributes to national discussions on police governance.
Her leadership goes beyond municipal and regional matters. As a Board and Executive Committee member of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), Linda plays a vital role in environmental stewardship, working to balance Vaughan's rapid development with sustainable practices. Her understanding of sustainable growth has helped shape regional development projects that address the city’s future needs, such as her strong advocacy for the Highway 413 project, which she supports as a critical infrastructure initiative to accommodate Vaughan's growing population and economic demands.
Linda's career is marked by a forward-thinking approach to governance, driven by the lessons she learned from her mother, Lorna Jackson. Lorna's legacy of compassionate, effective leadership profoundly shaped Linda’s values and leadership style, making her a dedicated public servant focused on improving the quality of life in Vaughan while ensuring long-term, sustainable growth for future generations.
