What’s open and closed in Vaughan on Canada Day
City service changes on July 1
It’s almost Canada Day and as you get ready for the holiday, the City of Vaughan is reminding everyone of facility closures, modified hours and alternate programming effective Tuesday, July 1. Here is everything you need to know.
Municipal facilities
Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.) – will be closed on Tuesday, July 1, and will reopen on Wednesday, July 2. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted.
Community centres and recreational programming
Vaughan community centres will be closed on Tuesday, July 1 and will reopen for regularly scheduled recreational drop-in activities on Wednesday, July 2.

The Thornhill Outdoor Pool, located at 26 Old Yonge St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for recreational swims, length swimming and an aquafitness class on Canada Day. Registration and pre-payment are available at vaughan.perfectmind.com. For details, visit vaughan.ca/swim.

Celebrate Canada Day with us
No plans yet for the long weekend? Come out to the City’s award-winning annual Vaughan Celebrates Canada Day event on Tuesday, July 1 at North Maple Regional Park (11085 Keele St.) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., headlined by JUNO award winner Preston Pablo! This free, fun-filled family event will include entertainment, activities, food vendors, a business zone and much more. Free shuttle service is available. There is no parking onsite.

Vaughan Public Libraries
All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) branches will be closed on Tuesday, July 1, and will re-open on Wednesday, July 2 for regular business hours. To view the hours of operation at all VPL branches, visit vaughanpl.info.

Staying in? Have fun at home with VPL! With an internet connection and a VPL library card, you can enjoy many free online resources available through VPL’s website, including access to eBooks and eAudiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more.
Waste collection
There will be no waste collection on Tuesday, July 1. All waste collection during the week of June 30 will be moved forward by one day, city-wide.
This means that if your regular collection service:
- is scheduled for Tuesday, your pickup will be on Wednesday.
- is scheduled for Wednesday, it will be picked up on Thursday.
- is scheduled for Thursday, it will be picked up on Friday.
- is scheduled for Friday, it will be picked up on Saturday.
You can register online to purchase garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange broken City-branded bins through Service Vaughan. Download the Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play for a personalized collection schedule, custom pick-up reminders and the “What Goes Where?” search tool. Vaughan Animal Services
The Vaughan Animal Services Shelter will be closed to the public on Tuesday, July 1. You can purchase pet licensing tags online at any time through Service Vaughan. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices.
Service Vaughan
The City’s contact centre at Vaughan City Hall will be closed on Tuesday, July 1 and resume regular hours on Wednesday, July 2. However, a live agent will be available by phone to respond to municipal emergencies over the weekend and on Tuesday, July 1. If you call to report a municipal emergency, please stay on the line to be connected to the after-hours answering service.
