Vaughan to host Adopt-a-thon and Open House on May 31

If you’ve considered opening your home to a four-legged friend, you’re barking up the right tree! In celebration of 15 years of Vaughan Animal Services, you’re invited to join us on Sunday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vaughan Animal Shelter (70 Tigi Crt., Unit 47) for an Adopt-a-thon and Open House. 

Come meet the animals, learn more about City and Regional services, and enjoy a free barbecue; however, donations are welcome with proceeds going to Vaughan Animal Services.

During the event, adoption fees will be $185 for kittens and cats, and $285 for puppies and dogs. This fee covers the cost of rabies vaccines, sterilization and microchip implantation. For Vaughan residents, it also includes the first annual pet licence. Debit and credit are accepted. Cash is not accepted. 

To adopt an animal, you must be 18 years of age or older, show government-issued photo ID and submit an adoption application. If you are looking at adopt a cat, bring a carrier to safely transport your new feline family member home that day. If you would like to adopt a dog, bring all household members to meet the animal you are hoping to adopt. If your application is approved, you will be notified within the week and an appointment will be booked for you to pick up your new pet.

New Animal Shelter coming!

A new state‑of‑the‑art Animal Shelter is coming to 10401 Dufferin St. and will replace the current location at 70 Tigi Crt.. The new animal shelter will provide a modern, purpose‑designed space that supports the health, safety and well-being of pets and their owners. It will serve as a central hub for animal care, adoption and community engagement in Vaughan. The project is expected to begin later this year.
