Vaughan comes together to celebrate Pride!
The community came together on June 16 at Vaughan City Hall for the City of Vaughan’s annual Pride Month celebration, showcasing a beautiful display of inclusion, diversity and community spirit.
This event featured official remarks from Mayor Steven Del Duca, a flag-raising ceremony, community speakers and more.
“Today, members of the community joined Members of Council and City staff to raise the Pride Flag at Vaughan City Hall, in recognition and celebration of Pride Month. It’s wonderful to come together – not just to mark this special time, but to continue celebrating the spirit of Pride beyond June,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca.
“Pride Month celebrates love, visibility, representation and being true to yourself. Vaughan is an inclusive and welcoming city, and we must continue to do the work to ensure that remains true. The City of Vaughan is proud to stand united with the 2SLGBTQ+ community every day. Happy Pride!”
Pride is an annual observance, celebrating and recognizing the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer, and other gender and sexually diverse (2SLGBTQ+) communities, their histories, achievements and ongoing struggles for equal rights and acceptance. This event is a celebration of 2SLGBTQ+ social and self-acceptance, achievements, legal rights and pride, serving as a platform to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
The City has proclaimed Pride Week every year since 2003 and Pride Month since 2020, and celebrates through various events, including raising the rainbow flag during Pride Week and hosting official flag-raising ceremonies. This year, the City once again proclaimed June as Pride Month and commemorated it through this community Pride event and flag-raising ceremony.
