Vaughan welcomes new citizens at special Canada Day ceremony

On July 1, the City of Vaughan was proud to celebrate Canada Day with a special citizenship ceremony, welcoming 50 new Canadians at Vaughan City Hall, marking the final step in their journey to Canadian citizenship.

This meaningful occasion is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to honouring and celebrating the diverse communities that strengthen our cultural fabric and contribute to this beautiful country we call home.

“It is truly an honour to celebrate such a meaningful and life-changing milestone – welcoming some of our newest Canadian citizens,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca.

“Vaughan is a diverse community, with more than half of our residents born abroad and more than 105 different languages spoken. This wide cultural representation is what makes our city, and our country, one in which many dream of living and raising children. With every new citizen, our nation grows stronger, more diverse and more vibrant. I extend a heartfelt welcome to every new citizen of Canada. I hope you not only feel at home here, but that you help shape and inspire the future we will build together.”

Participants took the oath of citizenship, a deeply symbolic and meaningful moment, as they embraced their new Canadian identity. This ceremony was brought to Vaughan City Hall as part of a Member’s Resolution (PDF) introduced by Mayor Del Duca in October 2024.
