Learn about running in this year’s municipal election
Attend a Candidate Information Session on April 15
Elections for municipal governments and school boards in Ontario are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October – and the next one will take place on Monday, Oct. 26.
Those interested in running in this year’s municipal election for the City of Vaughan or Township of King, are invited to attend a Candidate Information Session on Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.). A presentation will begin promptly at 7:15 p.m.
During the session, attendees will learn more about the election process, eligibility requirements for candidates seeking municipal or school board office, the roles and responsibilities of candidates and financial obligations and reporting requirements for the City of Vaughan and Township of King.
Candidate nomination period
The candidate nomination period for the 2026 municipal election will begin on Friday, May 1 until Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. Nominations must be submitted in person at the Office of the City Clerk, located on the first floor of Vaughan City Hall. Submissions are accepted by appointment only during regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Appointments can be scheduled in advance by contacting Election Vaughan by email at elections@vaughan.ca or by phone 905-832-2281, ext. 6104, with the first available appointments beginning Friday, May 1.
Get on the voters’ list
Although election day is still months away, residents are encouraged to confirm they are on the voters’ list by visiting registertovoteon.ca.
Eligible voters for municipal elections must be:
- a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old; and
- a resident of the municipality; OR
- a non-resident who owns or rents property in the municipality; OR
- the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in the municipality.
