You’re invited to our Remembrance events in November

This November, the City of Vaughan will host two Remembrance events to commemorate the brave Canadians who risked – and, in many cases, lost – their lives during times of war, conflict and peace.

Join Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council to honour the brave Canadians who served and continue to serve our country at the City’s Remembrance Day service on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Woodbridge Cenotaph (80 Wallace St.). Refreshments will be provided at the Woodbridge Memorial Pool and Arena (5020 Highway 7) following the service. Visit vaughan.ca/eventsfor more information.

You are also invited to attend the City’s Remembrance Month ceremony, which will take place on Monday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.).

Following the ceremony, you are welcome to share your thoughts of remembrance, peace and hope on the City’s Poppy Mural, and view a historical exhibit that pays tribute to the wartime experiences of those from Vaughan and York Region who served during the Second World War.

This year, the exhibit features John Thompson, Pat McDonald and Ruby Glassey, and offers a multifaceted connection between residents and these people by showcasing war artifacts and photographs. The exhibit will be on display to view in person at City Hall until Friday, Nov. 14 and online at vaughan.ca/RemembranceMonth for one year.

QUOTE

“During Remembrance Month, we pin a poppy to our chest to keep it close to our heart. It is a symbol of our unwavering gratitude to our Canadian veterans. I encourage everyone to join us for the City of Vaughan’s Remembrance events to commemorate the brave men and women who have risked their lives for Canada, whether in war, conflict, emergency or peace. Let’s ensure that their legacy and memory live on. Lest we forget.”

- Mayor Steven Del Duca
