On Dec. 6, the City of Vaughan sparkled like never before as the community gathered for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.

The Vaughan City Hall Courtyard was buzzing with holiday cheer as families and friends came together to kick off the season in style. The celebration was packed with festive fun – warm greetings from Mayor Steven Del Duca, hot chocolate and coffee, lively tunes and plenty of interactive activities for everyone to enjoy. Santa Claus even made a special appearance for photos, and the Christmas tree countdown lit up the night with 40,000 dazzling LED lights that wowed the crowd!

“I want to thank everyone who bundled up and came out to the City of Vaughan’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony this year,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca. “This time-honoured tradition is a beautiful reminder of the joy that comes from gathering as a community. From my family to yours, I wish you and your loved ones a wonderful holiday season filled with warmth, happiness and unforgettable memories.”

This annual event brings more than just holiday cheer to Vaughan families. It is also a reminder of the true meaning behind the season – to give back. Until Friday, Dec. 12, the City is accepting donations of new unwrapped toys for children aged newborn to 18 years old for its 16th annual Toy Drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish at the following locations:

  • Joint Operations Centre (2800 Rutherford Rd.)
  • Vaughan community centres
  • local fire stations
  • the Sports Village (2600 Rutherford Rd.)
  • Vaughan Public Libraries branches

Gift cards and cheques are also welcome. Cheques can be made payable to “CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish” and dropped off or mailed to Vaughan City Hall c/o Events Division, Level 300, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan, ON L6A 1T1.

All donations will be directed to the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish, which supplies registered charitable organizations, social service agencies, churches and community centres throughout the Greater Toronto Area with new, unwrapped toys and financial donations.
