Attend the Candidate Information Session on April 15 to learn about running in the municipal election

Interested in running in this year’s municipal election? Don’t miss the Candidate Information Session taking place on Wednesday, April 15 at Vaughan City Hall (2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.). The session begins at 7 p.m., with the presentation starting promptly at 7:15 p.m.

 

The session will provide an overview of the election process and eligibility requirements for candidates seeking municipal or school board office in the City of Vaughan and Township of King, as well as roles and responsibilities, financial obligations and reporting requirements.

 

Candidate nomination period

The candidate nomination period for the 2026 municipal election will begin on Friday, May 1 until Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. Nominations must be submitted in person at the Office of the City Clerk, located on the first floor of Vaughan City Hall. Submissions are accepted by appointment only during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

 

Appointments can be scheduled in advance by contacting Elections Vaughan by email at elections@vaughan.ca or by phone 905-832-2281, ext. 6104, with the first available appointments beginning Friday, May 1.

 

Get on the voters’ list

Although election day is still months away, you are encouraged to confirm you are on the voters’ list by visiting registertovoteon.ca

 

Eligible voters for municipal elections must be: 

  • a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old; and
  • a resident of the municipality; OR
  • a non-resident who owns or rents property in the municipality; OR
  • the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in the municipality.
