Statutory Committees and Boards
  
At the beginning of each term of Council, appointments are made to advisory committees or other bodies that Council is obliged by law to make. Council may also be advised to make appointments to ad hoc committees that Council considers desirable for the effective governance of the City where:
 
  • it is feasible to define a specific mandate and time-frame for the ad hoc committee to conduct its work
  • there is an absence of staff capacity or expertise on the subject, or there is a specific community of interest with a unique perspective on the proposed     mandate
  • there is a need for information gathering and analyses to inform subsequent deliberations at a standing committee of Council.

In accordance with the City of Vaughan Procedure By-law 7-2011 (PDF), every ad-hoc committee must have a Terms of Reference that includes: 
  • a specific term; 
  • the composition of membership and meeting procedures; 
  • a specific mandate / objective/s; 
  • the specific standing committee the ad-hoc committee reports to (after every meeting).

Terms of Reference for Task Forces 
The City of Vaughan 2018-2022 Term of Council task forces aim to address specific matters of importance to the public, such as key policies and city-building. To do this, the City established specific Task Forces to address these topics. Read more about the City's Task Forces.
