Protect your trees from spongy moths

Follow the City’s tips on trapping and removing caterpillars


Spongy moths are once again making a home for themselves in Vaughan, and, this time of year, they’re emerging as caterpillars. The spongy moth caterpillars are orange, brown and black, and they eat leaves from hardwood trees such as oak, maple, birch and poplar, and select shrubs. As the City of Vaughan’s staff continues to control the population on municipal trees, there are also a few steps you can take to help protect trees on your property.

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is growing! The emerging downtown core is home to Vaughan’s first university, first subway station and now, a new state-of-the-art recreation facility and library. Today, the City of Vaughan, Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) and the YMCA of Greater Toronto hosted the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the David Braley Vaughan Metropolitan Centre of Community.
