Home Flood Protection Workshop

In collaboration with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the City is hosting a free workshop for residents to teach them how to protect their homes from flooding.

 

Date: Wed. May 21

Location: Garnet A. Williams Community Centre (501 Clark Ave.) 

Time:  6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Registration is required.

 

During this session, residents will learn about the impact flooding can have on their homes and how they can reduce the risk of at-home floods. It will cover strategies like rainwater management, insurance considerations, basement flood protection features, and other key practices that help keep water out and get it out fast.

 

The workshop is being delivered by AET Group- an environmental consultancy with extensive experience in residential flood risk assessment.

 

Gallanough Park Pollinator Planting Event

Join the City and TRCA in planting three new pollinator garden beds at the newly revitalized Gallanough Park!

 

Date: Wed. May 28

Location: Gallanough Park (enter from 21 Springfield Way)

Time: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Registration is encouraged.

 


Pollinators play a vital role in plant reproduction and fruit development, supporting many of the world’s favourite foods - including apples, blueberries, and even chocolate! Come plant a variety of native species that will help sustain our local pollinator population and create a thriving habitat for
years to come!

 

Bike Month Bonanza

 

Date: Sunday, June 8

Location: Garnet A. Williams Community Centre (501 Clark Ave. W.)

Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

 

This drop-in event is free and offers a fun-filled day of family-friendly activities that promote active transportation and cycling safety. Come out to enjoy:

  • guided bike rides at 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.: routes vary in length and will start and end at the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre – bring your own helmet! Registration is recommended as spaces are limited. If we can, we will accommodate drop-ins.
  • FREE e-bike and e-scooter test rides
  • complimentary smoothies blended by a pedal bike
  • cycling educational materials
  • bike safety checks
  • food trucks on-site
  • vendor booths
  • cycling-themed crafts
  • raffles
  • and so much more!

Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required.

Time: 10 a.m. to noon

  1. Cannes Park (100 Cannes Ave.) 

Date: June 21, 2025

Time: 10 a.m. to noon

Registration is required to attend.

 

A safety demo will be conducted before the planting begins, so please arrive on time. Shovels, gloves, and light refreshments will be provided. These events are family friendly.

 

Please bring:

  • appropriate clothing and closed toe footwear (this event will be held rain or shine)
  • Gardening gloves
  • A filled reusable water bottle to stay hydrated

 

World Migratory Bird Day Event

Join the City of Vaughan and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority at the Maple Nature Reserve to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day!

Date: Sunday, May 11,

Time: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Location: Maple Nature Reserve, 10401 Dufferin St.

Registration is required.

Join us for a trail walk where you’ll learn about the importance of migratory birds, the threats they face and how we can help safeguard their habitats.

 

This family-friendly event will begin with a short introductory talk, followed by a guided trial walk through the beautiful Maple Nature Reserve. You’ll also discover bird tips and ingfind out which bird species you may see or hear in the area.

 

How to prepare?

This is an outdoor event and will be held rain or shine, so please dress for the weather. Wear proper walking shoes and bring a water bottle. You are welcome to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the introductory talk.

The City will supply:

· binoculars (please bring your own if you have)

· bird identification materials and checklists

· clipboards

· pencils

There are washrooms onsite.

 

Arriving and Parking

Please use the driveway entrance off Dufferin Street, located at 10401 Dufferin St. and follow the road until you reach the parking lot. The event will begin at the field in front of the parking lot and washroom building.

Green Guardians is the City of Vaughan’s new environmental stewardship program – and the City is encouraging residents and businesses to get involved. As a Green Guardian of Vaughan, you can join City-led or community-driven events and activities that promote environmental stewardship and help keep Vaughan safe, clean and beautiful.
