Your recycling questions answered
The Province of Ontario is now responsible for blue box collection in Vaughan. You may still have questions about this transition and the City of Vaughan is answering the top questions you may have on this new program.
Who is responsible for recycling collection?
Earlier this month, the Province of Ontario took over responsibility for municipal blue box collection programs, which are now operated by Circular Materials. In Vaughan, Miller Waste Systems is the collector hired by Circular Materials to pick up your recycling.
Who do I call if my recycling is missed on collection day?
Miller Waste Systems will facilitate all recycling-related service requests, including inquiries about:
- broken or damaged bins
- missed recycling collection
- service delays

Why did my collection time change?
Previously, blue box recycling and green bin organics were collected on the same truck at the same time. Recycling collection is now picked up on a separate truck. This means your blue box and green bin materials will be collected at separate times throughout your collection day.
To ensure all your waste gets picked up, set out your waste materials by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
Are Styrofoam™ and plastic wrap accepted in the recycling program?
Yes, Styrofoam™ and plastic wrap are part of Circular Materials’ new expanded list of accepted materials. You can also now recycle:
- chip bags
- deodorant stick containers
- foil wrappers
- pet food bags
- reusable pouches
- toothpaste tubes and more!
