Vaughan wins BeSpatial Ontario Award for innovative infrastructure map
City honoured for excellence in digital project management and co-ordination
The City of Vaughan has received the BeSpatial Ontario Award for its Geographic Information Systems (GIS) solution, which helps staff streamline how infrastructure projects are planned, tracked and delivered.
This award celebrates the City’s innovative use of GIS technology to support effective collaboration, improve decision-making and enhance service delivery. The award specifically recognizes Vaughan’s GIS-enabled Internal Interactive Construction Map, which has transformed how staff manage nearly 400 infrastructure projects across the organization.
The platform brings together project data from the City’s systems into a single, instantaneous map – providing staff one platform to easily access information about project scope, location, status and timelines. This helps reduce scheduling conflicts, minimize delays and improve how projects are co-ordinated across teams.
This tool has positioned the City as a leader in the region – Vaughan is the first municipality in York Region’s “All Construction” program to adopt a real-time, GIS-based mapping solution.
The City recently launched a Planned Capital Construction Map that allows residents to dive into real-time updates on construction projects happening across Vaughan. With four easy-to-use navigation tabs, you can explore projects by street address, type, year or ward – making it simpler than ever to stay informed about infrastructure improvements near you. The map is fully optimized for mobile use, featuring a responsive layout that adapts seamlessly from desktop to smartphones. This ensures up-to-date construction information can be readily available, anywhere, anytime.
By continuing to invest in digital innovation, the City remains committed to delivering modern, streamlined services that meet the needs of the community and support sustainable growth.
