What you need to know about the 2026 Municipal Election
The 2026 Municipal Election is approaching, and the City of Vaughan is encouraging you to get ready by confirming you are on the voters' list and learning about key dates, voter eligibility and how to participate in the election process.
Get on the voters’ list
You can check, update or add yourself to the voters’ list with the Register to Vote online tool until Wednesday, Aug. 12 at registertovoteon.ca.
Who can vote?
To vote in the municipal election on Monday, Oct. 26 or in the advance polls, you must be:
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years old
- a resident of Vaughan OR
- a property owner/tenant in Vaughan (or their spouse)
Who are you voting for?
The municipal election is for Vaughan Council and local school board trustee positions, including:
- Mayor
- Local and Regional Councillor (four elected at large)
- Ward 1 Councillor (Maple/Kleinburg)
- Ward 2 Councillor (West Woodbridge)
- Ward 3 Councillor (Woodbridge/Vellore)
- Ward 4 Councillor (Concord/Thornhill North)
- Ward 5 Councillor (Thornhill)
- School board trustee from one of:
- York Region District School Board
- York Catholic District School Board
- Conseil scolaire Viamonde
- Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir
What are the important dates?
- Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. – Candidate nomination period closes
- Friday, Oct. 9 to Sunday, Oct. 18 – Advance voting (online voting)
- Monday, Oct. 26 – Voting Day
