Recognizing World Migratory Bird Day

The City is bird-friendly certified. This means we’ve implemented practices, policies and initiatives to help save birds, protect their habitats and improve the local ecosystem. World Migratory Bird Day is one of these events. By studying and protecting birds, we can understand the overall health of our ecosystems and the environment.

Vaughan’s favourite bird

We asked, you answered – Vaughan’s favourite bird is the northern cardinal! This bright red beauty, with warm-toned brown females, can be spotted all winter long in shrubby areas and forest edges. A symbol of community and connection, it stood out among top contenders such as the American goldfinch, red-winged blackbird, sandhill crane and broad-winged hawk.

Borrow a birding backpack (bird kit) from Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL)
