Why do we need Green Guardians?

As Vaughan continues to grow and urbanize, there is increasing pressure on the City's parks, green spaces and natural assets. To guide a coordinated, city-wide approach to protecting and enhancing these features, the Green Guardians Community Programs Strategy (PDF) was developed as a four-year environmental stewardship framework.

Community stewardship plays a key role in:

Keeping neighbourhoods safe, clean and beautiful
Enhancing the City’s urban forest and local biodiversity
Strengthening environmental awareness, education and civic pride

How to become a Green Guardian

Participate in existing events

As a resident, community group, non-profit or business, you can choose to participate in events run by the City, including corporate and community tree planting events, gardening workshops, tree and bench dedications, and property recognition programs like Curb Appeal.

Create your own event

As a resident, community group, non-profit or business, you can create your own litter cleanup event in parks, neighbourhoods, trails and open spaces or initiate a community planting project on public land through the Community Planting Fund.
