Apply for a Short-Term Rental Licence
A licence is required to operate a Short-Term Rental in the City of Vaughan.
All short-term rental owners/operators and brokerages are required to obtain a short-term rental licence and register for a Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) number.
Step 1 - Review the Responsible Operation of a Short-Term Rental information sheet.
Step 2 - Register for a Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) number. All short-term rental owners and brokers require a MAT number.
Step 3 - Complete and submit the Short-Term Rental licence application and licensing fee.

Step 4 - After a short term licence has been issued, the owner/operator must:
- display the licence in a place visible from the outside of, or as near as possible to, the main entrance of the short-term rental.
- notify the City of Vaughan, in writing, within seven days of any change to the information provided in the application to obtain or renew a licence.
- ensure the short-term rental unit complies, at all times, with the Ontario Building Code and Ontario Fire Code, including maximum occupancy.
- show the amount of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) as a separate item or charge on the bill for each stay – this applies to owners that operate their short-term rental independently from a brokerage.
- collect and remit the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) to the City of Vaughan.
- maintain and renew the short-term rental licence while the short-term rental is in operation.

If submitting your application via e-mail, please ensure the application or accompanying message indicate a contact name and phone number for our staff to collect payment.
