Firework dos and don’ts

Stay safe and have fun this Canada Day

The long weekend is almost here! Canada Day is one of only two days each year you can light fireworks in Vaughan without a permit. But do you know how to handle them safely? If you plan to use fireworks on Saturday, July 1, there are some important safety steps to follow before, during and after you set them off.

Follow these safety guidelines from Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service:

DO

Protect your pets from poor air quality – keep them indoors!

If you are feeling the effects of the poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke, chances are your pets are, too.

Vaughan Animal Services is recommending you keep your elderly dogs, flat-faced dogs and cats, and domestic birds indoors as much as possible. Only let your dogs outside for short periods of time, if needed. Make sure they have plenty of water to keep them hydrated.

Sports Village Park

Sports Village Park, located at 2600 Rutherford Rd., is approximately 7.6 hectares (19 acres) in size, and currently contains a junior baseball diamond, senior baseball diamond (with lighting), a double bocce ball court and pathways. The park also includes open greenspace and seating areas.

The City of Vaughan completed a needs assessment study for the park in July and August 2023 to better understand how community members use the park, how they would like to use it in the future and what amenities they felt were missing from it.
