Official Opening of New Vellore Village Fitness Centre Held this Past Weekend

Hundreds of residents attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council on Saturday, April 6, to mark the official opening of the new Vellore Village Fitness Centre. 

The fitness centre is part of the Vellore Village Community Centre at 1 Villa Royale Avenue. It is on the west side of Weston Road, north of Rutherford Road. The facility is the sixth City-operated fitness facility located at Vaughan community centres.

Pierre Lemieux, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture, on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver, announced today that the Asian Long-horned Beetle (ALHB) has been successfully eradicated from Canada, following nearly a decade of collaborative efforts between federal, provincial and municipal authorities.

Start Your Spring Cleaning with a Vaughan 20-Minute Makeover

Vaughan’s 20-Minute Makeover returns on Friday, April 19 and residents, schools and businesses are encouraged to take part in the annual community cleanup. Mayor and Members of Council will participate in this year’s event by joining students and staff from Glen Shields Public School. Each year, one school is chosen from one of the City’s five wards to host the cleanup event.

City of Vaughan Easter Closures

City of Vaughan municipal offices, including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre, will be closed for the Easter holiday on Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, April 2.  

Vaughan Public Libraries will also be closed on Friday, March 29, Sunday, March 31 and Monday, April 1.

Vaughan community centres will be closed on Friday, March 29 and Sunday, March 31, and reopen during regular hours on Monday, April 1.

Proposed Changes to Development Charges Available for Public Review

The City of Vaughan has begun the process of reviewing its by-laws relating to development charges, the fees collected from land developers to fund the cost of municipal services and infrastructure needed to accommodate growth. 

The 2013 Development Charges Background Study has been posted online, and copies of the study are available for viewing by the public at the Clerk’s Office at Vaughan City Hall.
