Every month, the City releases a series called ‘You Asked, We Answered,’ where common questions received and responded to by Service Vaughan are highlighted.

Below are the top five inquiries from July:

1. How can I license my pet?

The Animal Control By-law 066-2020 (PDF) requires that all cats and dogs must wear a licence (a numbered metal tag) at all times. Licences are available for purchase for $25 from the City and require a valid rabies certificate. Failure to license your dog or cat every year may result in a fine up to $5,000.

Online pet licensing is available and takes about 10 minutes to complete. If you have previously licenced your pet, your login information is on your licence renewal letter. If you have lost your login information, you can contact Vaughan Animal Services at 905-832-2281 or animal.services@vaughan.ca. If you are licensing your pet for the first time, you can create an account directly online.

Dog and cat licences expire annually and must be renewed prior to the anniversary date of purchase to ensure the pet’s information, including the rabies vaccination certificate, is kept up to date. Existing registered owners will be notified at renewal time.

2. Is on-street parking allowed in Vaughan?

Although its summer and snowplows are off the roads, the City of Vaughan’s Parking By-law remains in effect year-round. As outlined in the City’s Parking By-law (PDF), on-street parking that interferes with City operations, including road maintenance or emergency access, is prohibited at all times.

On-street parking is permitted for up to three hours between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., unless otherwise posted or prohibited by the Parking By-law (PDF). On-street parking is not allowed between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., unless the vehicle has a valid permit for that date, time and location.

Parking permit applications are available online at any time. Permits are electronic and do not need to be printed or displayed. Permits are non-transferable between license plate numbers. Unused permit dates cannot be cancelled and reissued later if the dates have passed.

5. How do I know if something belongs in the green bin, blue box or garbage?
