Work progresses on Kirby Road, between Highway 27 and Kipling Avenue

Road closure continues until December 2025

To ensure Kirby Road remains safe for all road users, the City of Vaughan is reconstructing the slope – or steep hill – and culvert on this road. The work is underway and will be completed by the end of this year.

To safely complete this work, Kirby Road between Highway 27 and Kipling Avenue is closed. Local traffic will have access to Kirby Road throughout construction.

Since work began in early September, the eroded asphalt and slope on the north side of Kirby Road have been excavated and removed.

The next phase of work includes:

  • building a stone retaining wall to stabilize the slope.
  • installing a new stormwater culvert.
  • constructing a stormwater conveyance system.
  • completing environmental protection measures.
  • reconstructing the road.

Here are the answers to some questions you may have about the project:

Why is this section of Kirby Road being improved?

The slope along Kirby Road requires stabilization to prevent erosion and maintain safe road conditions. The existing culvert must also be replaced to ensure effective drainage and prevent road damage.

What work is being done?

Improvements include slope stabilization, erosion control and culvert replacement.

When will construction be over?

The current phase of construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of this year.

Will access be maintained for residents and local traffic?

Yes. Local traffic will be permitted. The closure does not impact any driveways.

For areas with complete closures, detour routes and signage are in place to guide traffic at the following intersections:

  • Kirby Road and Briarose Avenue/Belsite Court
  • Kirby Road and Kleinburg Summit Way
  • Kirby Road and Kipling Avenue
  • Kipling Avenue and King-Vaughan Road
  • Highway 27 and Kirby Road
