Vaughan honours Remembrance Month

Remembrance Month

Each November, the City of Vaughan pauses to remember and honour the brave Canadians who have served – and continue to serve – our nation with courage, duty and devotion.

“As we reflect upon the brave people who fought for our country, and who continue to serve today, let’s remember that their sacrifice and selflessness allowed us to enjoy the freedoms that we have today,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca. “I want to extend my sincerest thanks to everyone who joined us this Remembrance Month to commemorate and honour Canada’s veterans. I hope everyone took a moment of silence to reflect and remember everything they gave for us. Let’s ensure their memory continues to live on. Lest we forget.”

Here’s how the Vaughan community came together to recognize Remembrance Month:

Remembrance Month ceremony

On Nov. 3, the City hosted a Remembrance Month ceremony at Vaughan City Hall, where the community came together to reflect and honour the sacrifices made by individuals from Vaughan and across York Region. The event featured remarks from Mayor Del Duca, a Poppy Mural display and a City-curated exhibit. The exhibit is available to view online at vaughan.ca/RemembranceMonth.

Remembrance Day service

On Nov. 11, the community joined Mayor Del Duca and Members of Council for a Remembrance Day service at the Woodbridge Cenotaph, also known as the Woodbridge Memorial Tower, followed by a community gathering at the Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena.

Crosswalk installation

Following Mayor Del Duca’s Member’s Resolution at the Oct. 28 Council meeting and as a reflection of the City’s commitment to commemorating the remarkable courage and dedication of our veterans, a crosswalk was installed at the intersection of Woodbridge Avenue and Wallace Street to honour those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Wallace House displays

On Nov. 11, as part of the day's commemorations, the Wallace House opened its doors to visitors to explore meaningful exhibits of military uniforms, newspaper clippings and photographs related to the First World War and Second World War.
