See rain? Check the stormwater drain!

It’s the season for April showers! The City of Vaughan’s stormwater system ensures rain and melted snow make their way back into ponds, streams and lakes. But if a catch basin is blocked or covered by leaves or other debris, this water has nowhere to drain, which can cause ponding and street flooding. You can help ensure this doesn’t happen!

The resident living closest to a catch basin is encouraged to help clear it if it’s safe to do so – especially before or during heavy rainfall.

Report sewer or street flooding to Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or service@vaughan.ca.

There are approximately 22,000 catch basins in Vaughan that are critical in keeping stormwater moving. The City regularly maintains these drainage systems to keep Vaughan’s water clean and reliable and to avoid flooding. You can help protect this infrastructure by preventing yard waste, such as twigs and leaves, food scraps, chemicals, pool water and other debris from going into catch basins. Remember: only rain goes down the drain.
