The Latest on Vaughan’s Storm Response

Thank you for your patience as the City of Vaughan continues to clean up from last night’s storm.
Here is what you need to know as of 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3:
Waste Collection
Waste collectors are on schedule for Thursday’s routes. The City is providing additional support to storm-affected areas. If your garbage collection was missed, waste has accumulated due to basement flooding, or collection vehicles are unable to access your street, please contact Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or service@vaughan.ca. City crews are assisting with storm-related cleanup and waste collection where needed.
The City is also organizing additional Double-Up Days in the coming weeks. Details will be shared as they become available.
Road Closures
So far, the Roads team has received more than 140 service requests related to flooding and debris. Most have been addressed.
Huntington Road remains closed until further notice at Trade Valley Drive due to a major sinkhole. A detour route will be shared shortly.
There is a second ongoing closure on Huntington Road north of Rutherford Road.
Staff have received reports of water on the road near Martin Grove Road and Langstaff Road. Crews are on their way to clear debris and will provide an update as soon as possible.
City Facilities and Amenities
All City of Vaughan facilities are open today, with regular hours of operation.
Pathways at Jersey Creek Park, Veterans Park, Glen Shields Park, Nort Johnson District Park, Marita Payne Park and the East Don Open Space are closed due to flooding and downed trees.
City artificial turf fields and most natural baseball and soccer fields are open. For updates, visit the Sports Field Hotline webpage or sign up for alerts.

Marita Payne Park
Max Eisen Memorial Park (diamond 1 and diamond 2)

Tudor District Park (diamond 2)
Playgrounds at Marita Payne Park and Glen Shields Park are closed until further notice. The cricket pitch at North Maple Regional Park is closed until further notice.
Trees and Branches
There are many trees and branches down across the city, particularly in the Woodbridge area.
So far, the City has received more than 150 tree-related calls, and will continue to work over the next few days to address remaining ones on a priority basis. To help address the high volume of service requests, additional crews and contractors have been deployed, with more expected to be added as they become available.
To report damaged, fallen or hazardous trees located on City property, including parks, boulevards and roads, contact Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or service@vaughan.ca. If they are located on private property, contact a qualified arborist for assessment and cleanup. Ensure that the contractor has proper insurance and is covered by WSIB before hiring.
Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS)
Last night, VFRS responded to more than 10 times the normal call volume, with 113 incidents including fires, submerged cars and medical calls. No serious injuries were reported.
VFRS reminds all residents to check that their home smoke alarms are still functional and that they also have a working carbon monoxide alarm. Running portable generators or pumps inside a garage or home is not permitted and is dangerous.
Firefighters are out in the most impacted areas today performing safety and wellness checks.
Basement Flooding
If there is water flooding into your basement, leave the area and connect with your insurance provider. If there is fire or an electrical emergency, call 9-1-1. Do not attempt to shut off the electricity if any water is present.
Power Outages
Alectra has reported some power outages in Vaughan. To report a power outage, hazard, electrical emergency or damage to Alectra equipment, call 1-833-253-2872 (option 1), submit a form online or use webchat at AlectraUtilities.com/Report-Outage.
