Excited to see the transformation of North Maple Regional Park (NMRP)? Good news: current construction and servicing works are almost completed, and a new Family Recreation Area is being designed!

Guided by three pillars – Restore. Engage. Play. – this new area will promote activities related to restoring nature, sharing culture, promoting active living and building community. The Family Recreation Area will span over six hectares (15 acres) and include year-round amenities for people of all ages to enjoy, such as:

  • a parking lot
  • an artificial ice-skating trail
  • gardens, benches and shade structures
  • nature-inspired playgrounds and waterplay
  • pathways, trails and boardwalks
  • pavilion building with washrooms
  • picnic areas

Design of the Family Recreation Area is underway and construction is anticipated to begin in 2025 and be complete in 2026.

Check out the area’s concept design, as outlined in the Wednesday, May 8 Committee of the Whole (Working Session) Report

The development of NMRP

In April 2018, Council endorsed the vision to develop NMRP into a signature 900-acre park with outstanding recreation and culture opportunities. The full park vision will be built in several stages over the coming years –

In 2018, 80 hectares (197 acres) of parkland opened to the public with the following facilities:

  • two FIFA-certified artificial turf soccer fields with built-in spectator seating
  • picnic areas with shade shelters and seating
  • a toboggan hill
  • an asphalt parking area with room for 200 vehicles
  • a variety of walking and hiking trails

A park pavilion with a terrace, washrooms, and changerooms opened in 2019.

Current construction efforts include site grading, servicing and environmental restoration, are focused on preparing 52 hectares (130 acres) of parkland for future development of new recreational facilities and amenities, including Vaughan’s first cricket field, major event lawn, and upcoming Family Recreation Area.
