Temporary road closure on Kirby Road, between Highway 27 and Kipling Avenue

To ensure Kirby Road remains safe and accessible, the City of Vaughan will be reconstructing the slope – or steep hill – and culvert on this road, just east of Highway 27 between Kipling Avenue.

The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 8 and expected to wrap up by the end of this year. To safely complete this work, a road closure is required in the area of construction along Kirby Road, between Highway 27 and Kipling Avenue. Local traffic will have access to Kirby Road throughout construction.

Here are the answers to some questions you may have about the project:

Why is this section of Kirby Road being improved?

The slope along Kirby Road requires stabilization to prevent erosion and maintain safe road conditions. The existing culvert must also be replaced to ensure effective drainage and prevent road damage.

What work is being done?

Improvements include slope stabilization, erosion control and culvert replacement.

When will construction be over?

The current phase of construction will run from Monday, Sept. 8 and is anticipated to be complete by the end of this year. The next phase is scheduled for spring 2026 and includes asphalt replacement.

Will access be maintained for residents and local traffic?

Yes. Local traffic will be permitted. The closure does not impact any driveways. Detour routes and signage will be in place to guide traffic at the following intersections:

  • Kirby Road and Briarose Avenue/Belsite Court
  • Kirby Road and Kleinburg Summit Way
  • Kirby Road and Kipling Avenue
  • Kipling Avenue and King-Vaughan Road
  • Highway 27 and Kirby Road
