Swim lessons and aquatic leadership courses

Registration for fall swim lessons and aquatic leadership courses opens at 7 a.m. on

Tuesday, Aug. 19, with sessions starting on Saturday, Sept. 20 at all Vaughan community centre pools. Registration for non-residents opens on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Learn-to-swim programming is available for all ages, starting with parents and tot classes for children as young as four months old to levels specifically designed for adult non-swimmers. For those aged 13 years and older, training and certification in aquatic leadership courses are available to prepare participants for employment as a swim instructor or lifeguard.

The City also offers a number of special interest aquatic programs, including:

  • Vaughan Lifesaving Club (ages eight to 16 years old) and Vaughan Lifesaving Club Masters (ages 18 years and up): Throughout the year, certified Canadian Lifesaving Society coaches will help participants develop skills across five individual lifesaving events – obstacle swim, tow with fins, lifesaving medley, throwing accuracy and object support – and offer training for team events, including obstacle relay and medley relay. The program focuses on building overall fitness, while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, personal achievements and fun.
  • Fitness Swimmer, beginner or advanced (ages eight to 13 years old): This program helps improve overall physical fitness and is based on training principles and practices, including interval training, sprints and distance swims.
