City of Vaughan to Unveil Permanent Plaque Commemorating Victims in Iran

Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council invite you to the unveiling of a plaque and bench commemorating the victims of mass murder in Iran on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at North Thornhill Community Centre (300 Pleasant Ridge Ave.).
Since late December 2025, when anti-government protests in Iran were met with widespread violence and repression, Mayor Del Duca and Members of Council have stood in solidarity with the Iranian-Canadian community. On Jan. 29, the Iranian Lion and Sun Flag was raised at Vaughan City Hall, and on Feb. 21, the City held a solemn vigil to honour the victims and reaffirm Vaughan's unwavering support for the Iranian-Canadian community.
On June 23, Mayor Del Duca brought forward a Member’s Resolution that was unanimously supported by Council to establish a permanent commemorative plaque recognizing those who lost their lives during the recent mass killings in Iran. This tribute serves as a lasting reminder of the lives impacted and reflects the City’s commitment to honouring their memory and standing united for freedom and justice.
