Are the wayfinding signs in the VMC effective?

VMC wayfinding

The City of Vaughan is creating a vibrant city centre for people to live, work and play within its downtown core – the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC). This involves helping people navigate through the area and finding their destinations with ease.

As part of the Signage and Wayfinding Master Plan, a VMC Signage Pilot program was developed and includes the design and installation of five signs located in the central core of the VMC. The signs feature visual cues such as maps, directions, colours and various symbols. They aim to help simplify routes, guide individuals traveling in whichever mode they choose – such as by bike, foot, public transit, car and more – and easily locate local businesses, key destinations and institutions.

Have you seen these signs? Are they effective? Do you think they make navigating the downtown core easier? We want to hear from you!

Join the advisory group

We are assembling a team to help evaluate the new wayfinding signage throughout the VMC. Four people will be recruited to join our informal User Experience Advisory Group, and physically assess the functionality, design, accessibility, durability and overall effectiveness of the five new signs. We are looking for someone who lives in the VMC, someone who works in the VMC, someone who travels through the VMC and someone who champions accessibility. Interested? Apply online by Tuesday, April 2

Selected participants will not only help the City improve the VMC’s wayfinding signage system, but will also receive a $75 gift card to a merchant of their choice (from a predetermined list) or a $75 Presto Card.

Take a survey

An online survey is available until Monday, Sept. 30. It will take six minutes to complete. Participate to have your say on the durability and effectiveness of these new signs.

All feedback and findings collected will be considered into the final wayfinding system to be integrated throughout the VMC’s parks, public spaces and transportation platforms. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/VMCParks.
