Extra! Extra! The City of Vaughan’s 2023 Waste Collection Schedule is hitting mailboxes now! If you haven’t received it yet, you can view or download a digital version now at vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.
The new schedule provides a year at a glance so you can quickly reference both weekly and seasonal changes to waste collection – all on one page!
It details how to purchase new garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange damaged City-branded waste bins for new ones. It also highlights Double-Up Days, leaf and yard waste collection and other important waste services, such as Christmas tree collection.
You will also find quick tips and reminders on the correct bins and bags for waste materials, including the weight and size restrictions, accepted curbside.
The schedule also emphasizes the City’s long-standing commitment to waste reduction by including information on the 2023 Curbside Giveaway Days and textile donation bins, both of which encourage recycling, reusing and building a stronger community and more sustainable city than ever before.

Did you know you can receive a personalized waste collection schedule on your phone? Download the Recycle Coach app from the Apple App Store or Google Play to help determine what goes where. The app also provides waste-less tips and optional alerts on what to put to the curb each week.
Waste set out during the winter months
To help ensure waste collection runs smoothly in the winter months, set waste bins back from the curb approximately one metre on the right-hand side of the driveway (when facing the home) where possible.
Bins should never be placed on top of or behind snowbanks. This allows crews to safely collect waste and for the City to clear the snow effectively in residential areas.
Have all waste items out by 7 a.m. on the day of your scheduled curbside collection. Collectors will not return for items set out late.
Christmas tree collection
Starting Tuesday, Jan. 3 until Friday, Jan. 13, you can place Christmas trees curbside on your regularly scheduled collection day. Be sure to remove all tinsel and ornaments.
Do not put the tree in a plastic bag; ensure it is placed off the road and snowbanks so collection staff can access it safely. If you have broken glass ornaments, safely package the pieces in a cardboard box labelled “broken glass.”
