Heritage Permits and Clearances

Heritage Permit

Properties located within Heritage Conservation Districts (HCD) and Individually Designated Properties are designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.

A Heritage Permit is required for any work that changes the appearance of these properties.  This includes the entire property and any additional structures located within.

A Heritage Permit is obtained through a successful Heritage Review.

Large and Complex Buildings

Large and complex buildings are defined as:

  • All assembly, industrial and high hazard industrial occupancies
  • All buildings greater than three storeys in building height, or greater than 600 square metres in building area

The City’s Building Inspectors can discuss the various stages of construction requiring inspection and the types of reports that will be submitted to the City.
