Vaughan donates $15,000 to support the people of Fort McMurray

​Funds will go to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal
 
The City of Vaughan announced a $15,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal following a Council-endorsed member’s resolution introduced by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. The funds will come from proceeds of the Mayor’s Gala and Golf Tournament to support the citizens of Fort McMurray, Alta. who have been forced from their homes by wildfires.

Victoria Day closures in Vaughan

​The Victoria Day long weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, so why not kick it off by getting outside and enjoying warmer weather. Before making plans, remember to check out the City of Vaughan’s facility closures during the holiday.

City of Vaughan municipal offices, including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre, will be closed for the holiday on Monday, May 23. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 24.

Vaughan community centres and Vaughan Animal Services will also be closed on Monday, May 23, reopening on Tuesday, May 24.

Throughout the past six years, the Mayor’s Gala – together with the Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Annual Charity Golf Classic – has raised more than $3.3 million to help more than 100 not-for-profit organizations providing essential services to the community.

Mayors meet to plan Yonge Subway Extension strategy

​At an historic meeting on April 26, the mayors of the three largest municipalities in York Region discussed how they will work co-operatively to move the Yonge Street Subway Extension forward. The meeting of Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, City of Vaughan, Mayor Dave Barrow, Town of Richmond Hill and Mayor Frank Scarpitti, City of Markham was facilitated by the Yonge North Group, composed of three municipal councillors who have been working together for the last four years on this project critical to their municipalities and the GTHA transit network.

Vaughan hires new City Manager

​Daniel Kostopoulos to join the City in June
 
After a thorough recruitment process, the City of Vaughan is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Daniel Kostopoulos as City Manager, effective June 27, 2016.
 
Mr. Kostopoulos brings a wealth of municipal and leadership experience to the City of Vaughan, including most recently serving as the Commissioner of Transportation Services for the Regional Municipality of York (York Region).
