Vaughan stands united!
City staff raise $60,000 for United Way Greater Toronto
City of Vaughan staff have once again come together to make a positive impact on our community and help our neighbours when they need it most!
At today’s Committee of the Whole (2) meeting, Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council recognized City staff who raised $60,000 in support of the 2024 United Way Campaign. More than $53,600 was collected from a pledge campaign and internal events, and more than $6,000 was donated from the Spirit of Generosity initiative.
Led by a staff committee, the 2024 campaign included a variety of events and initiatives to raise funds, from a bake sale and silent auction, to a pool tournament and pumpkin drop, among others. Many staff also contribute through payroll deductions.
In 2024, the United Way Greater Toronto funded more than 650 programs – providing mental health support, food and shelter, after-school programs and other services – to more than 1.8-million people across the GTA.
QUOTES
“Every year, City of Vaughan staff take part in fundraising efforts for the United Way Greater Toronto. It’s our way of coming together in support of an important and meaningful cause. Last year was no exception. Once again, staff rolled up their sleeves to give back, and their continued generosity and compassion is truly inspiring. Staff’s consistent support for the United Way over the years has made a difference in the lives of countless people here in Vaughan and beyond. The United Way is an incredible organization supporting those most impacted by poverty and inequity across the region. I want to thank this year’s committee for their amazing efforts, as well as all the staff who contributed their hard-earned dollars to this cause. We are grateful for all you do to make Vaughan a better, more welcoming place for all.”
Mayor Steven Del Duca
“Team Vaughan showed up in a big way once again to support our annual United Way Campaign. Raising $60,000 is no small feat – the staff-led United Way committee went above and beyond in 2024 to ensure the campaign was a success. I’d like to extend my personal thanks to campaign chairs Ary Rezvanifar and Varant Khatchadourian, and everyone who participated. Whether it was through making homemade treats for the bake sale, participating in the pumpkin drop or bidding in the silent auction, Vaughan staff continue to make a lasting difference in this community.”
